Worship Pastor

The worship pastor at Malvern Hill Baptist Church serves as the pastor responsible for music and worship service planning and preparation as well as direction and oversight of A/V technologies. The principle purpose of this pastoral staff position is to organize and facilitate worship through music, leading the church body of Malvern Hill to worship Jesus Christ. The worship pastor will work in partnership with other leadership to help the church fulfill their purposes to love God, love others, and change the world.

Camden, SC is located in the Midlands near Columbia and is South Carolina's oldest inland city. With a population just over 8,000 people, Camden is a rapidly growing town with a rich history. Read more about Camden here


Malvern Hill Baptist Church is located in East Camden just off of Hwy 1. Originally founded in 1931 with 38 charter members, Malvern Hill has grown to be a thriving church with an attendance of 450-500 members and guests each Sunday morning in our two services. About our Pastor:

Craig Thompson

Craig Thompson has been the senior pastor at Malvern Hill Baptist Church since May 2007. He and his wife Angela have 4 children. Craig and Angela are actively involved in the community and the local schools. 


Craig is originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina where he is a proud graduate of Broome High School and a product of Zion Hill Baptist Church. After high school he attended Presbyterian College and later completed his M.Div and Ph.D. at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Craig served vocationally in local church ministry throughout all three of his academic degrees.


Craig is passionate about the local church and seeing believers grow in faith through biblical preaching and ordinary discipleship. He keeps a personal blog at www.craigthompson.org and hosts the Ordinary Christian Podcast.  He has written curriculum for LifeWay Christian resources, articles for numerous periodicals and online outlets, and has published two books, Home for the Holidays and Raised to Life:New Believer's Study Guide. His new book, Vintage Christmas: Christ in the Old Testament, will be available this Christmas season. He also leads a nonprofit ministry, Ordinary, which has been instrumental in helping individuals of our church and community gain strength and resiliency and be healthier today than yesterday through the 7-Strong initiative. 


In his spare time, Craig enjoys reading, weight training, hunting and fishing.
